Join Brooke Gentile, Executive Director of the Organic Association of Kentucky, and Tony Silvernail, Organic Transition Specialist, as they share an overview of the organic certification process including:

· Highlighting National Organic Program regulations for crop and livestock

· Details to consider for transitioning cropland

· Steps to take when applying for certification: certifiers, cost, inspection and                      timeline

· Organic Systems Plan: recordkeeping and approved input lists

· Resources for farmers

During the second part of the meeting Duane Schrader, of Stanton Zurich Solutions, will share information about a new effort to establish Organic Transition Credits (OTC) as a mechanism to direct additional income to farmers during the period of organic conversion when net profits are diminished prior to achieving certification. The OTC is not a loan and can be used at any stage of transition, for any number of acres, in any location and for any targeted organic purpose.

This FREE informational meeting is for all farmers interested to hear about organic certification. Pre-registration is recommended.
