2016 FIELD DAYS


February
18 - High Tunnel Production, 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Held in conjunction with Kentucky State University's 'Third Thursday Thing', this High Tunnel Production Field Day will cover the basics of vegetable production in high tunnels. Participants will tour Kentucky State University's high tunnels on the Research and Demonstration Farm
as well as OAK Board Member Tony Silvernail's high tunnels at his farm, Beyond the Bridge Organics. This Field Day is FREE! Pre-registration is appreciated but NOT required.

22 - Organic Transplant Production, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
The University of Kentucky Horticulture Research Farm Organic Farming Unit has a great setup to demonstrate and teach growers how to use both Commercial Prepared Mixes as well as a Homemade Recipe Mixes that fit under USDA National Organic Program (NOP) organic guidelines; different plug types and cell sizes; using a vacuum seeder; options for incorporated fertility and supplement liquid feeding that fit under NOP organic guidelines;  and a variety of organic vegetable transplants to observe growing in the greenhouses. This Field Day will be held at UK's Horticulture Research Farm Organic Farming Unit Greenhouse and will cover the basics of organic transplant production. Get ideas for the upcoming season, network with other producers, and tour the 30 acre USDA Certified Organic Research Farm! Pre-registration IS required; a $5 donation is suggested.
